Sales and Price ARE Related

iPodcaStudio has gone on sale in December 2009. I moved the price from $4.99 to $.99 (mostly due to my wife suggesting it). I expected to have more sales, but I did not expect 5X sales. To do the math for you… That means I now have to sell (roughly) 4 copies to make the same I made selling one copy before I dropped the price for our Christmas sale. But on the upside I am selling 5X compared to the previous month. Interesting.
This is purely anecdotal, but it does make you wonder if the future of all apps will be super-cheap impulse buy pricing.. or free.

Though anecdotal, I do find this to be logical. It seems much more likely that someone would take a chance on a $.99 app before paying $4.99 for a similarly well-reviewed app which serves the same purpose. The objective, after all, is to get consumers to “give it a shot” and see if it works for them. Not everyone who purchases software is likely to make consistent use of it. I’m very glad to hear that your distribution increased so significantly with the price reduction. Your product functions very well and is certainly worth the higher price, but the low price got me in the door without hesitation.
Thank you for developing such a useful , intuitive app.
